The Championships, Wimbledon, or simply Wimbledon, is the oldest tennis tournamentin the world and is considered by many to be the most prestigious It has been held at the All England Club in the London suburb of Wimbledon since 1877. For women, the AEGON Classic in Birmingham and 2 joint events, the UNICEF Open in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands and the AEGON InternationalEastbourne serve as warm-up events to Wimbledon.
Wimbledon traditions include a strict dress code for competitors, the eating of strawberriesand cream, and Royal patronage. The tournament is also notable for the absence of sponsor advertising around the courts. In 2009, Wimbledon's Centre Court was fitted with a retractable roof to prevent rain delaying and interrupting Centre Court matches during the tournament.
The 2011 Wimbledon Championships will be held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England, United Kingdom from June 20 to July 3, 2011. It will be the 125th edition of The Championships, Wimbledon and the third Grand Slam event for the 2011 ATP World Tour and the 2011 WTA Tour.
